in ayurveda, for example, it is believed that there are several different ‘constitutions’, or types of physical makeups. each of the body-types require different types of food, and react disadvantageously to specific foods as well.
food is also seen as medicine for the body, mind and spirit in ayurveda. there is a lot to learn from this perspective.
i believe strongly that food influences our mental functions, emotional balances, and physical wellness. the weather interacts directly with what foods would be (naturally) available, and our bodies needs. ex: does it make sense to eat watermelon in the dead of winter? i believe that being conscious of what one eats, relates to other disciplines of being consciously aware of one’s thoughts, emotions, and other habits. this ability to be the Witness of ourselves is key to spiritual evolution.
